Caught this long-eared owl by suprise in the hedgrow at Boundary Bay.

They were a bit more deeper in the foliage on today's visit. This was about the clearest shot that I could get. Had to go down to 200mm. No real shadows but branches in the way was unavoidable - December 28, 2013.

We were able to see a couple of long-eared owls more out in the open this weekend at Boundary Bay near Ladner B.C. Had to get my sister in-law to put her shadow over the bird to help make the light more even. This image taken on Friday December 27, 2013.

Boundary Bay Trip #3
I made a third trip to Boundary Bay today. Nice weather but terrible lighting conditions. Saw four different types of owls between Reifel and Boundary Bay. Stay tuned for other photos. Shot this guy at around 9:30 am in the morning shade. Just minor editing with no branch removal. January 5, 2014.
Egg With Ears (Long-Eared Owl)
Our trip to the mainland wouldn't be complete without a few photos of one of these guys. This is their typical habitat. You rarely see them out in the open on a post or a stump. If you do and you get some images, consider yourself extremely lucky.

Early Morning Sun (Long-Eared Owl)
On this trip we found three of our long-eared friends enjoying the morning sun right out in the open. They were all on separate perches within a few feet of one another.
