Cedar Waxwing Portrait
With a quick head turn a female cedar waxwing snatches a ripe hawthorn berry out of the air.

Berry Nice! (Cedar Waxwing)
At Buttertubs Marsh a cedar waxwing enjoys one of the last few hawthorn berries remaining before the new spring leaves start to sprout.

"'Tis The Season"
A bit early but I thought you might enjoy this.

Butterball Bohemian (Bohemian Waxwing)
Here is another one that was never posted from last year. Must have been the angle of the photo but this bohemian waxwing looks a little over-fed.

Frozen Lunch #2 (Bohemian Waxwing)
Thought I would upload this image from last winter to honor our first day of snow today, November 2nd - way early! Hope we see more of these guys in the next couple of months.

"Y" Me? (Bohemian Waxwing)
A single waxwing enjoys the winter sun while perched on a "Y" shaped branch.

Berry Nice (Bohemian Waxwings)
Kind of rainy and dark today so I thought I would upload a nice sunny image I took a couple of weeks ago that never got posted.

Landscape Version (Bohemian Waxwing)
Here is a landscape version of one of the previous photos a bit closer with some of the distracting elements removed

Berry Heaven (Bohemian Waxwing)
Thought the out of focus snow sort of looked like clouds.

Frozen Lunch (Bohemian Waxwing)
The Bohemians really seem to like the Hawthorne berries this year. Certainly makes for some nice photos.

Baby It's Cold Outside (Bohemian Waxwing)
Another successful day of photography with beautiful birds and great friends. Hope I am not boring you with all of these waxwing photos. Lots more where this came from 🙂

Better Background (Bohemian Waxwing)
This image was a bit of a crop but I really like the dark background as it makes the bird pop better and is not as chaotic as the other photos.

On The Tip Of My Tongue (Bohemian Waxwing)
A bohemian waxwing sucks down another Hawthorne berry.

Grabbing A Quick Drink (Bohemian Waxwings)
Had the waxwings come right to where I was standing today and drink out of the ditch at my feet. Sometimes they were too close to get good photos.

Beautiful Bohemian (Bohemian Waxwing)
There is a real invasion of these guys on the island this winter. Quite unusual as they are more indigenous to the interior and northern locations in B.C.

A Better View
Hi, Today I was going through some of the images that I took previously at Reifel this past week. I noticed that this image provides a much better example of the wing markings and color of the male bohemian waxwing so thought that I would post it.

The Gang's All Here
Bohemian Waxwings at Reifel Bird Sanctuary. Tough lighting at the end of the day. Hard to show the real beauty of these guys. I couldn't get them to turn around and show off their wings. Still, very nice to finally see some in person and not only in photos.

Reifel Bohemian Waxwing #2
Got a first glimpse of Bohemian Waxwings at Reifel Bird Sanctuary yesterday. Their plumage is quite a bit different to the usual cedar waxwing and they have a splash of yellow in the wing along with white and black and the red wax. Very handsome bird.

Reifel Bohemian Waxwings
Got a first glimpse of Bohemian Waxwings at Reifel Bird Sanctuary yesterday. About 30 birds were feeding on hawthorn berries near one of the ponds.
