Another Successful Hunt (Great Grey Owl)
Here an adult great grey flies with a fresh catch on her way back to feed the hungry owlets.

Where Are You? (Great Grey Owl)
One of many from a great trip to the interior. Here the male great grey gazes over into a meadow to check on his mate who is hunting near by.

Burnt Out (Great Grey Owl)
Stopping to rest momentarily, the female great grey owl hunts from an old burnt out stump.

Watching From a Low Perch (Great Grey Owl)
A female great grey owl pauses on a branch at eye level before continuing on with her hunt.

Hunting Low Down (Great Grey Owl)
A female great grey owl keeps watch for prey from the edge of a meadow on a low tree branch.

Great Grey in Flight (Great Greay Owl)
I'm Not too sure if this is the female or the male. Sorry, next time I will try to get a bit closer. 🙂

Bat Bird! (Great Grey Owl)
I was lucky to get this in the frame. The great grey owl jumps down after a vole which was about 6 feet in front of me. Couldn't figure out why he was staring at me 🙂
Folks on Flickr should left click twice for best detail.

Big WIngspan (Great Grey Owl)
Posted this one on Facebook a while back and forgot to put it up here. Another in the same sequence as "Bat Bird". He does have a tail tucked back there somewhere. Left click twice for greatest detail.

Concentration (Great Grey Owl)
A great grey owl is poised on a fir branch momentarily before dropping down into the meadow to snatch up an unsuspecting vole.

Moving With Flare (Great Grey Owl)
A great grey owl flares before repositioning to a new branch. Best viewed at highest resolution.

Extremely Talon-ted (Great Grey Owl)
Did some creative cropping on this one. Hope you like it.

Great Grey Glide (Great Grey Owl)
Another image of the great grey owl on its way past me as I stand in a mountain meadow. Love the feather patterns on these guys.

Wings Down (Great Grey Owl)
One of the adult birds flies towards the camera from the other side of the meadow. No vole this time unfortunately.

Looking Back (Great Grey Owl)
No one else was taking photos when I took this image. Couldn't figure it out at the time. Great subject isolation, nice background, and diagonal composition. Who could ask for more?

Tree Topper (Great Grey Owl)
A great grey owl scans the meadow for voles from a 20 foot conifer.

Pausing For a Breather (Great Grey Owl)
Here is one that I posted earlier on Facebook but never got around to posting here. The female great grey owl takes a well deserved rest perched on a stump after spending most of her morning feeding her hungry owlets.

Up and Away (Great Grey Owl)
I really like the feather patterns in this image.

Pancake Shot (Great Grey Owl)
Often referred to as a "pancake shot" when the wings are neither all the way up nor all the way down. One of many flight images taken this summer.

Special Delivery (Great Grey Owl)
On her way to drop off a big fat vole for the young ones.

Over The Shoulder (Great Grey Owl)
Found this one today while digging through the archives.

Hiding In Plain Sight (Great Grey Owl)
Easy to see how you could walk right past one of these guys and never even see them. In this image the owl hunts the meadow from about 20 feet up in a fir tree.

Totally Stumped (Great Grey Owl)
Here is another image from our whirlwind tour in BC owling country.

Great Grey Owlet
Fully fledged and quite capable of escaping any danger by just flying away. This guy came down to give us a closer look for a while before returning to his siblings in a near by snag.

Great Grey Owlet
Caught a bit later in the season this great grey owlet still has a lot of its down and juvi feathers but is fully fledged and quite capable of flight.

Gnarly Perch 2019 (Great Grey Owl)
Another dandy from the whirlwind trip to owling country.

Trying To Blend In (Great Grey Owl)
Early in the morning a great grey owl hunts from a tiny dead branch sticking out of a large fir tree. Another experiment in low light and high ISO. If not for a noisy robin I would never have seen him.

Another Successful Hunt (Great Grey Owl)
In this image the owl has caught a Townsend's vole which is their natural prey along with pocket gophers, chipmunks, and other rodents.

Momma Is Watching (Great Grey Owl)
In this image the female great grey watches us from a near by tree branch. We had just come back from an extensive search on a logging road and found nothing but chipmunks and a few scruffy tanagers. This shot was taken at the end of our hike about a hundred feet from our car. My brother in-law saw her first and said "Steve! Momma is watching". It was early in the morning and at first I didn't know what he meant. He pointed to our right and there she was on an open branch about 20 feet away and around 25 feet off of the ground. They blend in really good and can often hide right in plain sight.

Great Grey Owlet
This image taken somewhere in the interior of B.C.

Shields Up! (Great Grey Owlet)
Caught at an interesting point during a wing stretch.

Dove Position (Great Grey Owlet)
My Birthday special. Another one from our trip to the interior last month.

Real Good Camo (Great Grey Owlet)
Had to have this guy pointed out to me before I knew he was there. The owlets were branching and not quite fully fledged. He had to use a sapling to climb the bigger tree and get to that branch which was about 30 feet off of the ground.

Blowing Bubbles (Ruddy Duck)
A male ruddy duck blows bubbles to attract a mate.

Ruddy Duck Close Up
I was just going through my images from our summer visit to the interior of BC and came across another nice image of a ruddy duck. This image taken at Python Lake or "Pine View Marsh" as it has been re-named, right in the western suburbs of Kamloops.

Yellow-Headed Blackbird
What trip to Kamloops would be complete without a few images of these guys. Lots of laughs at their amazing calls and admiration over their beautiful plumage.

Good Light Today (Lazuli Bunting)
It was much cooler and the light was more even today at Cinnamon Ridge. Lots of cooperative birds there including lazuli buntings, western kingbirds, bullocks orioles and catbirds. Stay tuned for more images to come!

Backside View (Lazuli Bunting)
Here is another one for all you bunting lovers out there. Something weird going on with the background. I will work on it. Looks good on my home screen but when I upload it adds a strange moiré to the photo. Perhaps their compression routine?

Tranquille Kingbird (Western Kingbird)
Lots of these guys around the Tranquille bike trail mixed in with all of the orioles and lazuli buntings.

Male Bullocks Oriole
This male bullocks oriole came pretty close today at Cinnamon Ridge.

Interesting Stance (Bullock's Oriole)
A male bullock's oriole holds himself up between two branches as he chases other orioles in his territory.

Tranquille Grey Catbird 2019
Didn't think that I had any really good images of the catbirds on our trip. I was pleasantly surprised to find a couple while going through my photos today. This one was taken on the Tranquille end of the Airport Biking Trail in Kamloops.

Female Bullocks Oriole
Caught this female oriole on the way to her nest which was located on a low branch in plain sight from the walking path.

Natural Perch (Lazuli Bunting)
Here is another image of a lazuli bunting in a more natural setting.

Male Western Grebe
A male western grebe catches a small fish to present to his mate as part of the mating ritual.

Salmon Arm Osprey
Shot from the dock over to one of the pilings.

Salmon Arm Osprey #2
On the way up to the piling from water level. Not bad light for middle of the day. Best seen at highest resolution.

Wing Flap (Ruddy Duck)
The ruddy ducks never seemed to come as close up in the alpine. Here the duck flaps during a preening session out on a mountain pond.
